Are there sightseeing boats available?

There are regular sightseeing boats and liners operated by several operators.

“Niomaru Course” (approx. 50 min.). A cruise around the islands to fully enjoy Matsushima, one of the Three Most Scenic Spots in Japan. (Fare) 1,500 yen for adults, 750 yen for elementary school students, and free for younger children.

The “Sagakei Gorge (Open Sea) Course” (approx. 60 min.) is a cruise around Sagakei Gorge, one of the three greatest gorges in Japan. Rough, fierce rocks provide an utterly contrasting view from the elegant landscape observed in Matsushima Bay. The panoramic view fills us with endless awe and wonder. (Fare) 2,000 yen for adults, 1,500 yen for elementary school students.

Are tour guides available?

Historical City Tagajo volunteer guides
Tagajo Travel Association dispatches volunteer tour guides to provide clear explanations of historical and cultural heritages, such as the site of the ruins of Tagajo Castle (a Special Historic Site) and the old monument of Tagajo (an Important Cultural Property). Reservation is required, and users are requested to pay the actual costs for the guides (transportation fees, admission, meals, etc.). Oku-Matsushima volunteer guides
In addition to the guided tours around sightseeing spots in Oku-Matsushima, the guides convey the damage they suffered from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Reservation is required, and the fee for a guide is 3,000 yen. For details, please contact the Higashi-Matsushima Tourist Association (0225-87-2322).
NPO Minatoshiogama “Volunteer guides circle”
Provides guided tours at historic sites such as Shiwahiko and Shiogama Shrines, and around the city. Reservation is required, and users are requested to pay the actual costs for the guides (transportation fees, material fees, etc.) For details, please contact 022-361-0685.
Rifu Town tourism volunteer guides
Guided tours around sightseeing spots and famous places in the town are available on request. Reservation is required, and users are requested to pay the actual costs for the guides (transportation fees, material fees, etc.). For details, please contact 022-356-3678.

Are there any accommodation facilities with onsen (hot springs)?

Yes. Representative accommodations include Hotel Daimatsuso and Ryotei Unseian. Uchimi Ryokan is located in Sawaoto Onsen (Rifu Town).

Are rental bicycles available?

Aihara Shoten
Rental bicycles are available at Aihara Shoten near Matsushimakaigan Station on the JR Senseki Line. Fee: 500 yen for two hours, and 250 yen per hour after that. A 1,000 yen deposit is also required, which will be returned when you return the bicycle.
Historical City Tagajo Tourist Information Center (Tagajo Station on JR Senseki Line)
The Historical City Tagajo Tourist Information Center provides a bicycle rental service, offers tourism information and pamphlets, and arranges volunteer guides. Bicycle rental fee: 100 yen per hour (A 1,000 yen deposit is also required, which will be returned when you return the bicycle.)
